Disposable Bruxism Screener

The BiteStrip is designed to help identify the existence and frequency of bruxism. Many patients are unaware what damage they can do to their teeth from bruxing at night. The BiteStrip can serve as a tool to show your patients the presence and frequency of burxism. This is a great diagnostic tool to screen your sleep apnea patients, bruxing can damage oral appliances for the treatment of snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea. BiteStrip is easy to use, disposable screening the patient can easily test in the comfort of their home.

How It Works!!

The patient places the self-adhesive device directly over the masseter muscle on the external skin

surface, before going to sleep  and performs 3-4 voluntary clenches to establish a baseline for the study.

The BiteStrip then records the number of clenching events based on a percentage of the baseline. The BiteStrip is able to gather data with its EMG electrodes and amplifier to acquire and analyze the jaw muscle’s EMG wave forms in real time, and each bruxing burst is counted and recorded internally.

Reading the BiteStrip display:

In the morning the BiteStrip displays a single digit, which appears in black on a silver colored background.

The final score represents 5 possible test outcomes based on the severity level of the bruxism

  • 0 -- No sleep bruxism (less than 40 events)
  • 1 – MILD bruxism (40-74 events)
  • 2 – MODERATE bruxism (75-124 events)
  • 3 – SEVERE bruxism (125 or more events)
  • E – Error, study was to short or other problems

If necessary, place the Orange Reader Card (at least 1 reader card will always ship with your order and can be reused) over the display area to make reading the number easier.

The display is permanent and the BS can be kept as a hard copy for the patients files.
